GEM STATE VOTER GUIDE
Idaho Legislative/Statewide Questionnaire for 2010 Primary Election

1. Strengthen marriage by reforming the unilateral nature of “no-fault” divorce

Support

2. Strengthen the Idaho law which prohibits coerced abortions

Support

Abortion should be prosecuted as murder.

3. I would sacrifice my political career to abolish abortion

Support

4. Ban embryonic stem cell and human cloning research in Idaho

Support

Destroying human embryos should be prosecuted as murder.

5. Add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to discrimination law

All discrimination laws should be repealed.

6. Ban all taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood in Idaho

Support

7. Merit pay for public school teachers based on student achievement

Support

All public schools should be transitioned to the private sector and all public funding for education should be eliminated. Competition in the educational sector would result in fair compensation to teachers.

8. End “tenure” for public school teachers

Support

9. Remove the cap which limits new charter schools to six per year

Oppose

We do not need more “choice” in public education; rather, we need to create true educational choice through competition in the private sector. Private and home schools will produce far better educational results than public education has ever been able to do.

10. Education tax credits or deductions to make education alternatives more affordable

Support

Private education has proven itself to be much more cost effective than public education. Ending all public funding of education would create massive tax savings, which could then be spent by families on their school of choice.

11. Permit discussion of scientific challenges to the theory of evolution in public schools

Support

12. Teaching the Bible’s impact on history, literature and art in public schools

Support

13. State-funding for pre-K programs

Oppose

14. Require registration and/or state testing of home-schooled students

Oppose

15. Protect right of legislative chaplains to pray according to their convictions, including “in Jesus’ name”

Support

16. “Car Carry” legislation to allow law-abiding adult citizens to put their loaded firearms out of sight in their vehicle without being required to obtain a concealed weapon license

Support

This would be accomplished by repealing all concealed carry laws. Individuals have the right to keep and bear arms, period.

17. Concealed-weapon permit-holder’s (age 21 or over) right to carry concealed weapon on Idaho’s college campuses

Support

This would be accomplished by repealing all concealed carry laws. Individuals have the right to keep and bear arms, period.

18. Eliminate all personal property tax on businesses

Support

19. Increase revenue for transportation by raising taxes, fees or rates

Oppose

There is more than enough money available for transportation, especially if it were to be managed properly. Ultimately, we need to privatize transportation.

20. Grant local option authority to raise taxes for mass transit systems

Oppose

Mass transit systems should be developed by the private sector. We need to remove government restrictions that discourage this from happening.

21. State expenditures posted online

Support

All financial transactions, not just expenditures, should be posted online.

22. Train state law enforcement agencies to assist federal officials in enforcing immigration laws

Support

23. Government mandated caps on greenhouse gas emissions to reduce threat of global warming

Oppose

24. Idaho should facilitate the building of nuclear and/or coal-fired energy plants

Support

This should be accomplished by removing all regulation of the energy industry and allowing the private sector to develop what it will.

25. Allow political parties to close primaries to all but publicly registered members of the party

Oppose

Public registration of political affiliation is a severe violation of privacy. We need to stop public funding of primary elections altogether and allow private parties to determine their own candidates at their own expense.

26. Idaho’s lawsuit against the federal government as a result of the Idaho Health Freedom Act

Oppose

We need to nullify federal laws, not try to fight them in court.
