FOOD PRODUCERS of IDAHO, Inc.
1. What is your background related to agriculture and/or natural resources?
It is not necessary to have a background in agriculture or natural resources to understand their importance with regard to government. Since we have the right to life, we also have the right to sustain life, which involves the utilization of natural resources to provide food, clothing, and shelter. The only role government should play is to protect these rights.
I do not have any professional experience in industries that are directly involved in agriculture or natural resources; however, I do take a great personal interest in them. While in high school, I worked for a potato farmer in Eastern Idaho moving pipe and operating farm equipment. During that time, our family raised chickens, goats, pigs, cows, sheep, and rabbits. We also kept a large garden. My family is currently raising a milk cow and two calves, as well as a flock of chickens. We also have a garden, and I occasionally volunteer to work at a church owned orchard.
2. What are five important issues you feel must be addressed by the Idaho Legislature at this current time?
The agricultural industry receives its share of meddling governmental interference. Price supports, subsidies, crop disaster payments, buyout programs, zoning ordinances, and regulations all have a negative impact on the industry.
Here are some things I would like to see the legislature do, all of which are related to agriculture:
(1) Eliminate property taxes
(2) Eliminate business taxes, including personal property and corporate income taxes
(3) Repeal all occupational licensing laws
(4) Repeal planning and zoning ordinances
(5) Nullify federal law and programs that fall outside the constraints of the constitution
3. Please provide a vita or resume about yourself and your interest in serving in the public policy arena.
I am interested in serving in the legislature because the only way we will see real change in our laws is to change the lawmakers. Past and current politicians have shown that they are not willing to return this country to its constitutional roots. Below is a brief listing of my education, work, and other experience.
